Ellsworth will be tough this year.. ( I know way to go out on a limb) They return a lot of starters plus adding a great 8th grade class.. Jens will be tough at 103..

last years regional lineup:
112 Stockwell, Brent 10 13-9 Yes
119 Huppert, Sam 12 24-7 Yes
125 Langer, Roarke 10 23-11 Yes
130 Yarwood, DJ 11 25-8 Yes
135 Welch, Austin 9 7-6 Yes
140 Reister, Zach 11 24-11 Yes
145 Kuesel, Levi 11 28-6 Yes
152 Eggenberger, Tanner 11 18-7 Yes
160 McLay, Noah 11 23-5 Yes
171 Hines, Parker 10 18-10 Yes
189 Hunter, Tyler 10 16-10 Yes
215 Deiss, Cory 12 21-9 Yes
285 Oeltjen, Nick 12 15-12 Yes

I count 8 returning state qualifiers, plus Dan Langer who was out with an early injury from last years team. They add Lantz, Fransen, Kemmer, Cain as solid freshman. Plus 4 more really good freshman

I also think at least 1 returning state qualifier will not make the team. Too many wrestlers for 152, 160, 171.  Reester (who looked huge at Sand Wrestling), McClay, Keusel, Eggenberger. I don't see Keusel making 145 again.

Yes.. but what about Keusel 152, Eggenberger 160, McLay 171, Hines 189, can Reister get to 145? That might change for individual tournament..

All those good freshman and Jens may be the only one that is on varsity this year. Frandsen wrestled good at Schoolboy duals but they are loaded in the middle.. nice problem to have.

Ellsworth has another freshman Dennis Schutz who will be tough.  He finished 2nd this year at kids state.  He should be around 140-145 and may see some time on varsity.  This freshman class will make their marks starting their sophomore year...there are just too many good upperclassmen in those middle weights for anyone to find a spot.  Not to put any extra high expectations on Lantz, but I really think he has a great shot at placing at state this year.  Lantz almost beat Munoz from Rapids this summer at the Rapids duals, and Munoz just finished 2nd in Fargo.

There is no question that Jenz is going to place at the state tournament this upcoming year.  The only question is how high can he go?  I think he has the potential to win the whole thing.  Jenz has some of the best defense I have seen in a long time and he is so mentally tough.

I think Jenz is a very impressive young wrestler and could easily place at state.  However, just to play devil's advocate, he did lose to a wrester who did not place at state  last year not that long ago in Munoz.  Now of course Munoz will probably place this year but just saying.......

1. They are in different divisions (last years division 1 103 pounders were pretty good.)
2. Munoz stepped it up this summer and pinned almost everyone in Oklahoma City. (Greco and Freestyle)
3. Munoz took second at Fargo (Juniors)
4. Jens is a schoolboy, Munoz a Junior.

I agree but....

1. There is no schoolboy, Cadet or Junior at H.S. state which is what the discussion was about.  I would imagine he will be facing lots of Juniors and Cadets this year and really very few Schoolboys.  So I think this actually is a reason for caution rather than confidence

2. I'll let others hash out it D-1 is superior to others, that is typically a discussion I avoid at all costs

Honestly, I am not trying to take anything away from either one, they are both among the best in the state, but so is everyone else placing at state, and in some cases not placing at state.  Jenz is one of the top Freshmen in the state and carries an impressive resume.  If I had to guess, I would say he will win multipe state titles, maybe even this year but I'm just saying I wouldn't assume anything and put undue pressure on a freshman, mentally tough or not..

Yes, I know that there is no schoolboy,Cadet, or Junior at state....I'm also not taking a shot at any division. You used an example of Jens not able to beat Munoz . All I'm saying is that Munoz is much improved over last year. And last year he lost by 1 point to place at state. 103 was deep at D1 last year.
I don't want to put any pressure on the young man from Ellsworth. If he does not place or make it to state it won't be the end of the world. He wrestles at a very high level and it will take a good wrestler to beat him. Good luck to Jens and Munoz this year.
